Many of you became familiar with the name Shurooq Amin as she was spotted recently in the local and international media for her controversial art work and after her gallery was shut down by local authorities. If you don’t know her, she introduces herself in her website as follows: “Shurooq Amin is a Kuwaiti conceptual/mixed media interdisciplinary artist and an Anglophone poet, renowned for her controversial subject matter and taboo images.”
After going through her resume, I believe she is one of the finest artists in Kuwait who has a mixture of local sense of art with international standards. I won’t talk about her recent issue which you can read it here. I will just leave you with some of her paintings and let you decide, did she deserve closing down her exhibition or did the censorship policy go too far and exaggerated a little bit?
