Things to do in Istanbul!

Istanbul is the only city in the world that has two different continents, it is huge. You will fall in love with it the moment you step out of the airport, which in my case was Istanbul Atatürk Airport.

There are thousands of hotels and other tourist-oriented industries in the city, catering to both vacationers and visiting professionals. The city is alive day & night so you can expect heavy traffic and a busy airport.

If this is your first visit then you will need to know where to go and have a plan already, i stayed at the Alkoclar Keban 4 stars hotel, it’s exactly a min away from the main Taksim Square and nearby almost everything you might need from Metros to other attractions.

The hotel was a great start for my vacation from staff to cleanliness and location, totally recommended!

I’ll list down some of the activities/attractions you should not miss in your visit to this fascinating city.

  • Taksim square, Isteqlal Avenue (only a minute from the hotel, packed with restaurants, cafes, stores, nightclubs and busy on weekends).
  • Blue Mosque,  Hagia Sophia & Topkapi palace (near Sultanahmet area, entry fee is 30TL about 15 US Dollars, book your ticket online or at the hotel to avoid staying in line for hours).
  • Eminönü District (Eminönü has many historical mosques and buildings such as the mentioned above plus Grand Bazaar, Spice Bazaar and The new mosque).
  • Bosphorus Ferry Cruise Tour (probably the most overlooked Istanbul tourist attraction).
  • Istanbul’s Street Food (Kestane, Corn, Oysters, Kumpir Potato, Simit, Shawerma & surely the Turkish sweets almost in every shop).
  • Istanbul’s Night Life (Isteqlal Avenue is filled with your average nightclubs such as Lupe, Olympics, Indigo which i did not really enjoy other than that you will find 360, Riddim & Reina to be just great).

That was a quick guide that i thought might help some of you to explore the city, there is way more than that in Istanbul, trust me this city will leave you speechless!

Health Tips – Lemon Water

Refreshing lemonI always drink my coffee in the morning, but then who doesn’t right? it turns out if you replace that with a lemon water drink in the morning it has better effects and benefits on your health.

From today onwards you will see me posting more health tips. Its just that i gained few pounds recently and i sure did not like that one bit so i started googling and looking up more healthy food and learning their benefits.

Below are some of the benefits that lemon water contain:

1Boosts immune system: Lemons are known to have vitamin C, which is great for fighting colds.  They’re high in potassium, which stimulates brain and nerve function. Potassium also helps control blood pressure.

2Balances pH: Drinking lemon water everyday will reduce body’s overall acidity. Lemon is one of the most alkaline foods around. Yes, lemon has citric acid but it does not create acidity in the body once metabolized.

3Helps with weight loss: Lemons are high in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings. It also has been shown that people who maintain a more alkaline diet lose weight faster.

4Aids digestion:  Lemon juice helps flush out unwanted materials. It encourages the liver to produce bile which is an acid that required for digestion. Efficient digestion reduces heartburn and constipation.

5Is a diuretic: Lemons increase the rate of urination in the body, which helps purify it. Toxins are, therefore, released at a faster rate which helps keep your urinary tract healthy.

6Clears skin:  The vitamin C component helps decrease wrinkles. Lemon water purges toxins from the blood which helps keep skin clear and live as well. It can be applied directly to scars to help reduce their appearance.

7Freshens breath: It can help relieve tooth pain and gingivitis. The citric acid can erode tooth enamel.

8Relieves respiratory problems: Warm lemon water helps get rid of chest infections and halt coughs. It’s helpful to people with asthma and allergies too.

Real Clouds in your Room غيوم حقيقية في غرفتك

cumuluskleinMaybe some of you will doubt it and say its photoshopped, but this is defiantly not fake, The Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde created real clouds indoors, yes indoors!! He said “Using a smoke machine, and carefully monitor a room’s humidity and atmosphere can get the smoke to hang in the air so elegantly, and with the right back-lighting it brings out shadows from within the cloud, and gives it that look of a ominous rain cloud”.

I’d looove to sleep in those clouds and wake up finding my room raining, too dreamy i know 😛

Documentary On Kuwait’s Road Accidents وثائقي عن الحوادث في شوارع الكويت

18crime1When we talk about car accidents and violations in Kuwait, our imagination tends to suddenly think of the painful accidents we see every single day in the streets. Not a day goes by without seeing a horrific accident, especially on the Arabian Gulf Street, which happens to be my only way to work in the morning and evening.

Kuwait has topped the list of highest traffic accidents  in the Arab World, this certainly means that there is a lack of awareness in terms of this matter, especially since Kuwait is a small country compared to other countries, statistics do not lie and there is a real problem to be solved.

I came across one of my favorites blogs today (BananaQ8) and saw this post about a new documentary that was filmed and done here in Kuwait under the name of “Your Life is Worth”, the movie will be soon released in Kuwait cinemas Inshallah and i would like to give the people behind it a big thank you from the heart for gathering and making such a great idea to help solve a continues problem.

Some horrific statistics about Kuwait’s lethal car accidents:

  • Traffic Accidents during 2011: 75,194 i.e. 206 accidents per day on average (or 8.5 per hour).
  • Fatalities as a result of Traffic accidents: 493 deaths i.e 1.3 per day.
  • Traffic citations issued: 3,531,791 various citations i.e. 9,600 per day, 403 per hour
  • Impounded vehicles: 27,709, Impounded motor cycles: 735.

World’s Highest Skydive At Speed Topping 500mph قفزة من الفضاء الى الارض

Austrian basejumper Felix Baumgartner has succeeded in jumping from a helium balloon nearly 90,000 feet off the ground and landing near Roswell in New Mexico.

Baumgartner, is making final preparations to break the record held by skydiving legend Joe Kittinger, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel. Kittinger’s record  for free-falling from 102,800 feet, or more than 19 miles  has been revered in the aviation community since it was set in 1960. At the time, no one knew whether a human could survive such a leap.

I can just imagine how crazy some people could be, these people are adrenaline junkies for real.
